Thanks for sharing Mary – a cruise to Hawaii sounds wonderful – the work onboard not so much. Our ship was going into drydock and I’ve heard many post dry dock stories like yours. Thankfully they can’t do work onboard with passengers like you and I experienced after the fiasco that prompted the lawsuit. I hope you had a good cruise nonetheless and I appreciate you sharing your compensation – hopefully that helps others who experience disruptions with NCL cruises in the future

We were on the first sailing after drydock and were to sail from San Francisco back to Hawaii and then continue on with the regular itinerary that the PoA sails in Hawaii. The DAY BEFORE we got a voicemail on our phone saying the cruise was delayed by a day. It worked out OK for us since we were already in San Francisco and were able to extend our hotel stay for one more night. Many others were not so lucky. Some people did not get the message and arrived the next day expecting to go right to the ship only to find out it wasn’t leaving for another day. Try getting a hotel room at the last minute in a city that is hosting several large conventions! I talked to one man who said NCL helped them find a hotel and it was over $1000 for the one night!

At first NCL said we would get 25% of our cruise fare to put towards a future cruise, but before the cruise ended they had upped the amount to 50%. They also covered our extra night hotel expenses and meals although this was not consistent among all passengers. It took over 2 months before we finally got a check reimbursing us for our expenses.

And even though we sailed a day late, construction continued throughout the cruise finishing up projects that were to have been done during the drydock. Certain areas were not open due to the work and the smells and noise were not pleasant.
